The last few years I've adopted the practice of ONE WORD, using the philosophy of Jon Gordon, Jimmy Page and Dan Britton and their book One Word That Will Change Your Life. Instead of making new year's resolutions, I find one word to focus on throughout the year to help me live my best life. 2019 my word is UPGRADE.
A few weeks ago, Rev. Reginald Clark preached a sermon about upgrading our relationship with Christ. He used the text from Ephesians 3:20-21
"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."
Rev. Clark referred to a recent trip he and his wife had taken to Texas to see the Dallas Cowboys play and how they were upgraded on the plane. I knew during that sermon that my word for 2019 would be UPGRADE. According to Rev. Clark's sermon, we are to speak, visualize and experience God's glory.
On my recent trip back from Atlanta, I began thinking about my one word and how it applied to my life. As I walked into the airport for my return trip home, I said to myself, "wouldn't it be nice if I got upgraded like Reggie and VAesta. It was just a passing thought. I was already TSA approved so it didn't take long to get through security I got to my gate, sat down and was immediately called up to the desk to see the attendant. I thought to myself, "Oh, no, what did I do?" The attendant says, "Mrs. Pope, because of your mileage points, we're going to move your seat up." My mouth dropped! I wasn't ready and didn't quite get what he was talking about. I was excited though, knowing this had to be good as I'm used to sitting in the back of the plane in economy. When it was time to board the plane, it took a minute for me to realize, I now was in the first boarding group. Once on the plane, I walked past my seat, thinking "I can't possibly be this far up." I was in row 2! This felt really good. As soon as the plane took off, the flight attendant asked if I wanted something to drink. I looked at him and said - "NOW?" I asked for sparking water. After a short nap, the flight attendant came back and asked me what I wanted to drink and if I would be having the cheese plate. I was done. If you know anything about me, you know cheese is a major comfort food for me. I finally got it! I had been upgraded. I began talking to God, claiming my word and my upgrade.
Today I am ready for my upgrade. This year has been challenging BUT GOD! I started my doctoral journey and received an A+ my first semester. I am preparing for my upgrade daily by staying close to God, dancing my prayers and doing what He tells me to do. Life is good and I'm looking forward to it getting better by following God's lead. I can only follow God's lead by staying in close relationship with HIM. This year I am claiming my ultimate dance partner and dancing through my hills and valleys with HIM. I'm ready for UPGRADE!
